This route requires the qualities of a long distance cyclist because though the height difference is feasible it is long and demands many hours cycling. This is why the first part of the route is varied, the middle part is more demanding and the final part is quite smooth despite a few hairpins.
Only two climbs are really tough, the Mondolfo and Le Capute which leads away from Urbania towards Urbino. The Mondolfo climb is steep but very short.
Le Capute on the other hand, is much longer but the gradient is easier. It is very beautiful with wide hairpin bends which ease the pace.

If you wish to visit the centre of Urbino you must be prepared to face some steep climbs. Every year a timed race called “The Urbino Walls” is held here.
The Furla Gorge is well worth a trip at a leisurely pace so you can take in the natural surroundings which, thanks to the new A road, will remain unchanged in time. The small tunnel you have to go through is unaltered since its construction by the Romans.

Unfortunately, towards the end of the route, you will almost inevitably have to cycle along quite a lengthy part of the A16 so our advice to keep strictly in single file here must be taken seriously.
